Morocco in the round of 16 after their victory against the Comoros

In a match that it dominated, Morocco beat the Comoros on Friday for its second match of CAN-2022 (2-0). A short success which opens the doors to the round of 16.

The Comoros believed in it but Morocco was too strong. Lacking in realism, the Atlas Lions only obtained a narrow 2-0 success against the Comorians in a match which they nevertheless dominated. The essential is however there with a guaranteed qualification for the next round of the African Cup of Nations.

Dominating from the start of the game, the Moroccans had the good idea to convert one of their first chances. As the ball sailed dangerously into the Comorian penalty area, Selim Allamah got rid of his direct vis-à-vis and scored despite a forest of players facing him (16th, 1-0).

Moroccans helpless before Ben Boina

A decisive opener since the Atlas Lions will spend the game chasing after the break goal. Nayef Aguerd finds the crossbar by heading a corner from Sofiane Boufal (37th). Then, Ayoub El-Kaabi escapes the vigilance of the defense, dribble goalkeeper Salim Ben Boina but comes up against the masterful return of Mohamed Youssouf (43rd). Just before returning to the locker room, the same El-Kaabi harvests an offering from Tissoudalie (45th + 1)

Dominated, the Comorians nevertheless give up playing forward. Suffocated by the pressing of the Moroccans, however, they struggle to be dangerous. With the exception of the many free kicks from Faiz Selemani.

During the second period, Comorian goalkeeper Ben Boina will torment the Moroccan attackers. The goalkeeper of the US Marseille Endome, the fifth French division, is masterful. First when Sofiane Boufal addresses a dangerous cross, the Cœlacanthes goalkeeper hits just enough to prevent Ayoub El-Kaabi from taking it back (56th).

The goalkeeper will successively repel a free kick from Hakimi (77th), succeed in a triple save on his line (79th) and above all stop a penalty from Youssef En-Nesyri (83rd) before achieving a perfect exit at the latter’s feet .

At this point, the Moroccans are simply disgusted, while the Comorians play their all out. Faiz Selemani and his team ignite the match and the North Africans are close to cracking.

The Atlas Lions are finally released in two stages. Zakaria Aboukhlal adjusts Ben Boina from the surface. The referee whistled offside but the VAR corrected the decision a few minutes later (89th, 2-0). Goalkeeper Ben Boina can console himself with the man of the match trophy, a first for his country.

Morocco can therefore breathe. He is in the round of 16 thanks to this convincing success, despite the lack of realism. He was not surprised by the Comoros, who will have to give their all in the last match against Ghana to snatch a first success in the competition and perhaps hope for a repechage for the future.
