The president of Atlético Nacional, the coach, the captains, the squad and even René Higuita came out to defend Aldair Quintana against the criticism it has received from a sector of the fans.
Emilio Gutiérrez, president of the institution, summoned an extraordinary press conference this Wednesday to speak on the subject. “Aldair deserves respect and You have all our trust all our support, this is something that applies, not only to him, but to any of our institution”, said the manager.
“What everyone does against Aldair plays against the team and the goals we want to achieve. That way of acting is paid and we all pay it”, he added.
For his part, coach Alejandro Restrepo indicated that Aldair has been an important man, that he has gone with different coaches to the National Team and that he values his sporting contribution.
While Rene Higuita, who is part of the team’s Football Committee, assured that everyone has made a mistake at some point in their lives and that Aldair has already apologized for the leaked audio in which he referred to the fans in disrespectful terms.
“With all the love I have for the fans, let’s be better people, let’s create a society, the most imperfect man in the world tells them,” said Higuita.
Álex Mejía indicated that the most important thing is that Aldair feels protected. “He is backed by the managers, the coaching staff and the players. You have to give him credit for showing his face and not hiding. He has had the personality to withstand criticism, he is here and wants to vindicate himself. We do not want to divide because the objectives are achieved from the union. We want that every time he guards the goal he feels protected with a good message from the fans”.
