Nationals sign Rusney Castillo to minor league deal

Rusney Castillo, a 34-year-old outfielder, has reached an agreement with the Washington Nationals for next season, on a minor league contract.

The Cuban, who signed a $72 million contract with the Boston Red Sox in 2014, seeks to return to the MLB, after playing last season with the Rakuten Golden of Japan.

Castillo will open the season in Triple A, with the intention of convincing the organization that he can help in the MLB. In his career he has 99 games in the majors in three seasons, with a .262 batting average, 7 home runs and 35 RBIs.
