Giannis Antetokounmpo, the MVP of the past NBA Finals, continues to write pages in the NBA history books. The Bucks star led his team’s landslide win against the Warriors (118-99). In a game that was already sentenced at halftime (77-38) the Greek achieved his third triple-double of the season and the 28th of his career by signing 30 points, 11 assists and 12 rebounds.
But that statistical spreadsheet, stratospheric by itself, took on a historical relevance since I converted to Giannis Antetokounmpo the first NBA player to in the last 40 years he has accumulated more than one triple-double with at least 30 points in 30 minutes or less, exactly the time the Greek was on the pitch against the Warriors.
The first time I accomplished something similar was the Oct 24, 2019, when I signed 30 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists in 28 minutes on the field against Houston Rockets. In the NBA Russell Westbrook has the record of most triple-doubles in 30 minutes or less with 14, although he does not have two of them with more than 30 points. Y James Harden has the record of most points in a triple-double in less than 30 minutes, with 43 points. But he hasn’t recorded one in that time with more than 30 points.
