DENVER — The Denver Nuggets have secured veteran winger Bryn Forbes from the San Antonio Spurs in a three-team trade with the Boston Celtics.
The Nuggets sent injured players Bol Bol and PJ Dozier to the Celtics while Spurs welcomed Juancho Hernangomez from the Massachusetts roster.
Spurs will also receive the Nuggets’ second-round pick.
In Forbes, the Nuggets are getting a good peripheral shooter.
The team would also be interested in the services of DeMarcus Cousins to help defending NBA MVP Nikola Jokic lead Denver far into the playoffs.
On the side of the Celtics, we are approaching the point where we would avoid the luxury tax this season.
The Nuggets were looking for reinforcements on the flanks given injuries to Jamal Murray and Michael Porter. Forbes has a 41.7% completion rate for three-pointers this season. He averaged 9.1 points.
Forbes has always been a threat from long distances.
He ranks third in the past four years in field goal percentage among players who have attempted more than 1,000 three-point shots (after Joe Harris and Seth Curry).
Forbes was a member of the Milwaukee Bucks when they won the NBA championship last season.
Bol had been traded to the Pistons recently, but the deal was called off after the seven-foot-two failed to pass the necessary medicals.
The Nuggets announced on Tuesday that Bol has undergone surgery on his right foot and will be sidelined indefinitely.
Dozier ended up on the Celtics’ injured reserve due to a ruptured right anterior cruciate ligament.
Hernangomez has only played 18 appearances this season for the Celtics.
The Spaniard was a 2016 first-round pick by the Nuggets.
