NBA legend Charles Barkley recently praised AEW star Jon Moxley for getting help.
Moxley checked himself into inpatient rehab for alcohol in early November. He took a few months off from wrestling before returning to last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, where he edited a promo about his journey to sobriety. Bully Ray caused outrage from fans and other wrestlers because he believed Moxley should have apologized to the fans.
Barkley spoke about Moxley for getting help while he was helping Steam Bath Podcast. This theme comes to Barkley’s mind when his younger brother died after battling his own addiction.
“Hey, this is serious. I know you don’t know this guy, his name is Jon Moxley. You know I’m a huge wrestling fan. Call The Rock. Hey Rock, we’ll always be close. I do all the stunt work. You don’t know that, when you see his body, that’s actually me. So I watch a lot of wrestling so actually Jon Moxley is a star on our network [TNT].
This is not a homer pick. He wrestles, you know – call Chris Jericho. So Jon Moxley, he’s one of the biggest stars – yes, AEW. He left for alcohol treatment three months ago. You know I had a younger brother who died so I know a lot about addiction and he just got back this week and I just want him to know – we never met. I just want to say man I’m really proud of him. I wish him only the best. I’ve been through it with my family and my husband, it’s a tough situation but I just want him to know, I’m really proud of him and just keep fighting. That’s all you can do. That’s all you can do. So salute to those guys.”
