Dan Quinn, the Dallas Cowboys‘ defensive coordinator and a candidate for a head coaching job with several National Football League teams, will instead stay with the Texas squad for “years to come.”

That’s what Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Friday.

Quinn, a former Atlanta Falcons head coach who just completed his first season as defensive coordinator with the Cowboys, has been called up for interviews by the Denver Broncos, New York Giants, New York Bears Chicago and the Minnesota Vikings. He was also a candidate for the vacant position of head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

Jones was interviewed by Dallas radio station 105.3 on Friday, a week after what was to be his last weekly segment on the radio station that airs his team’s games.

He said he wanted to appear on this additional show to talk about Quinn and head coach Mike McCarthy.

Jones reiterated his support for McCarthy after the Cowboys finished first in the National Conference East before losing a playoff game at home to the San Francisco 49ers.

“Mike was very involved in the process, and very involved in trying to give us every chance to keep Dan Quinn,” Jones said. This was definitely not a case where we were going to leave Mike in the dark. »

While indicating that Quinn turned down an offer to become a head coach – “I strongly believe in that,” Jones said – the Cowboys owner gave no specifics or details on a contract extension with the Cowboys. .
