The tennis player Novak Djokovic has 80% of the Danish biotech company QuantBioRes, that seeks to develop a medical treatment against COVID-19the company’s chief executive told Reuters.
The general director, Ivan Loncarevic, who described himself as an entrepreneur, said the investment was made in June 2020, but would not say how much it amounted to.
QuantBioRes has some 11 researchers in Denmark, Australia and Slovenia, according to Loncarevic, who stressed that they were working on a treatment, not a vaccine.
The company is developing a peptide that inhibits coronavirus infection in human cells and hopes to start clinical trials in Britain this summer, he added.
A spokesman for Djokovic did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The tennis number one has fueled the global debate on the rights of people who choose not to get vaccinated after he was expelled from Australia on Sunday night, which put him out of the Australian Open.
