Novak Djokovic taken into custody! Federal court adjourned – sport mix

More excitement in the entry thriller about tennis star Novak Djokovic (34)!

The Serb now has to spend at least one day and one night in a deportation hotel. The federal court adjourned to Sunday (9.30 a.m. local time). The Djokovic lawyers and the lawyer for Immigration Minister Alex Hawke (44) agreed on this.

The Djokovic side had already pleaded in court on Friday for Sunday to be the next day of the hearing in order to have time to obtain evidence. The other side had no objection to this.

The only point of contention: Will the hearings be held by a single judge or by three judges on Sundays, Fridays and Saturdays? The difference: Hawke would no longer be able to contest a decision by the three-person committee.

He was previously taken into custody by the Australian border authorities on Saturday morning (local time). No surprise, because Judge Anthony Kelly had determined exactly that on Friday at the appeal hearing against the visa revocation.

Accordingly, the hearing before the immigration authorities was scheduled for 8 a.m. local time. Until then, the number 1 in the world was allowed to consult with her lawyers throughout the night. Since there was still time after the hearing until the hearing before the federal court at 10.15 a.m., Djokovic was arrested.

It is unclear where he was taken to. The lawyers asked that he not be taken back to the Park Hotel, the deportation hotel in Melbourne, where he was being held until last Monday. They want to avoid media hype, protest actions and, if necessary, attacks on the building.

Djokovic has already had his visa withdrawn twice by immigration authorities for not being vaccinated against Corona.

Australia’s Immigration Minister Alex Hawke (44) did this for “reasons of public health and order.” The 20-time Grand Slam winner immediately loses the right to stay in Australia.

Meanwhile, Serbian Coronavirus Crisis Team member Zoran Gojkovic revealed that Djokovic’s positive PCR test is said to be actually from December 16. “It’s absolutely valid,” he said. He also contradicted Prime Minister Ana Brnabic (46), who accused Djokovic of not having gone into isolation. “By that point, those provisions no longer existed,” he said.

Accordingly, Djokovic has no fear of punishment, at least in Serbia.
