Having the dream of succeeding in football is one of the most common resolutions among young people in Spain, a country where the king of sports is deeply rooted at a social and cultural level. However, achieving this objective seems to be not as simple as one might think. A study claims that only 0.2% of footballers federates of our country manage to earn a living with sport, let alone succeed in it. An initiative that also encourages young athletes to complete compulsory studies until the end and combine practicing sports with other activities.

To raise awareness among the population, the sports agency Promoesport, author of the study, has brought together three profiles from the world of football to get the message across: Vincent Moreno, coach of Espanyol in the First Division, sports journalist and former soccer player Alberto Edjogo and the former soccer player Hyacinth Elah, a young promise who has had to carve out a career as a counselor after not reaching the elite.

Moreno, with a career of more than a decade on the bench, assures that it is necessary to have an alternative plan to football, even if it is late, and to have the support of those closest to him to make the right decisions. “It’s never too late. Realize not only us, but also those around us so that they can help us, listen to those who love you». Edjogo coincides with him, who warns of the free hours that football leaves and how they could be used “What football offers you is a lot of time. You can play ten hours of video games, or two hours of video games and another eight to train and grow. Find what you like.”

But it is surely Elá who has more power to talk about the subject, since he experienced firsthand the difficulties involved in reaching the elite of European football. “In England I had more money and a lot of free time. reading saved me. I read to learn English, to escape and help me disconnect. Remember that apart from being a footballer I am something else and that my life is more important. Football could not occupy all my time, there is life beyond.
