PSV coach Schmidt puzzles towards Ajax, Zahavi is available

January 20, 2022PSV coach Roger Schmidt can call on Eran Zahavi this weekend. The experienced striker came on Thursday evening against Telstar for the first time after his injury and is ready for the Eredivisie top match against Ajax next weekend. “It’s nice that Eran has played a few minutes again.”

That’s what Schmidt said after the difficult 2-1 win over Telstar. There he was asked about the possible line-up of Sunday in the top match against Ajax. “That’s a puzzle, like every new game is a new puzzle,” Schmidt smiled. “You have to look at the condition of the players. Tonight we were able to take good care of a number of players. It was not possible for us to play with the same setup three times in a row, partly due to disrupted preparation.”

Schmidt was referring to the corona vicissitudes that the club faced during the winter break. Partly because of this, the coach was happy that PSV will in any case continue to convert. “Not all the players were 100 percent fit with us today and the opponent was very sharp. Sometimes it looks easy, but in football it is never very easy. And we were not very good. Sometimes football is like that, you have to then accept,” said Schmidt.

Zahavi ready for Ajax
PSV striker Zahavi himself also appeared in front of the cameras. “Ajax is an absolute top meeting, that is not a normal game. I feel good, but the question is whether I will play,” Zahavi made clear that he would like to appear at the kick-off himself. He was also asked about the rumors that he might want to leave the Netherlands after a new burglary. In any case, that’s not the case. “The rumors are something for the media. In football anything can happen, but you just saw me on the field today.”
