Rafael Nadal has just taken a special place in the pantheon of tennis. This Sunday, he won the Australian Open against Daniil Medvedev (2-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4, 7-5). His second in Melbourne after the first acquired in 2009 but above all his 21st Grand Slam tournament. He thus overtakes Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, both at 20 units, the Serb having been unable to participate, for lack of having been vaccinated against Covid.
You have to realize what this first big trophy of 2022 means: Pete Sampras, 4th in the men’s list, points “only” to 14 titles. In detail: in addition to his now 2 victories in Melbourne, Nadal has won 2 Wimbledon tournaments, 4 US Open and especially 13 Roland-Garros. Note that in the Open era, two players have done better in terms of Grand Slam titles: Serena Williams (23) and Steffi Graf (22).
