The Mexican Tennis Open will now feature five of the best 10 players in the world in its 2022 edition
The public attending Telcel Mexican Tennis Open (AMT) 2022 will have as main course the favorite of the fans, Rafael Nadal.
The presence of the three-time AMT champion was confirmed by the director general of the Open, Raúl Zurutuza, in an exclusive interview with ESPN.
“Today’s news is that Rafa Nadal is coming to the tournament, we are very happy that he has decided to come and play. Rafa is Rafa, I think it’s important, we have to see how he does now in the Australian (Open), so we’re happy because now we have five of the Top 10 in our tournament”, Zurutuza told ESPN.
With the presence of Spanish Rafael Nadal, No. 6 in the world, the Mexican Tennis Open will feature five of the best 10 players in the ATP ranking in its 29th edition, as Russian Daniil Medvedev (No. 2), German Alexander Zverev (No. °3), the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (N°4) and the Italian Matteo Berrettini (N°7).
“The truth is that we are very happy that Rafa has accepted the invitation, I think it is good news for the tournament, there is not much to say, Rafa Nadal is Rafa Nadal, he sells himself, we know who he is, we know the dedication that he has for sports, for the things he does and nothing, he will have to open a new house and I think people are going to be very happy, the public is going to be very happy. We haven’t had five Top-10s for a long time, but without a doubt it gives us great pleasure because it puts the tournament at an extraordinary level and I think everyone will be happy to see him play,” added the Mextenis manager.
The AMT 2022 will take place from February 21 to 26 in Acapulco, in the new facilities of the GNP Seguros Arena, and will be broadcast, as is tradition, by ESPN.
