The Belgian golfer, fourth at the Rio Olympics in 2016, then experienced a more difficult period to finally regain his feelings at the end of 2021 with a title at the Portuguese Masters.
A success that boosted Pieters‘ ambitions. “He is only 29 years old and he is a born competitor. He proved, notably by finishing fourth in a Masters and participating in the Ryder Cup in 2016, that he could claim to compete with the best in the world. He has the temperament of a real winner and an enormous talent.” confided his coach Jerome Theunis to the Belgian Golf Federation after Pieters’ victory in Portugal.
Enthusiastic, Pieters surfed this wave and extended his pleasure by starting his year 2022 in the best possible way in Abu Dhabi. A success of which he is proud and which he wants to inspire for future generations.
“I hope young people in Belgium are watching. When I watched tournaments as a child, it seemed impossible for me to reach the highest level. Then Nicolas Colsaerts arrived and started winning. This is what can inspire young people and I hope to do so as well.” smiled Pieters at the end of the tournament.
