The San Diego Padres also bet on Latino talent and Cuba was no exception. A total of 20 free agent contracts, three of them Cuban, and an expense of 6,262,600 according to the specialized site Baseball America; was the balance left by the franchise after the first day of the international signing period.
The most important Cuban signing of the organization was undoubtedly that of shortstop Yendry Rojas, signed for a bonus of 1.3 million dollars., the second highest in the franchise, only surpassed by right-hander Jarlin Susana, from the Dominican Republic, for 1.7 million.

However, the National League West franchise obtained the services of two other young Cuban talents for smaller bonuses, almost at a “bargain price”, although the careers of these athletes and who knows if in the future they will become important players in the organization.
The first of them was Juan Murillo, from Ciego de Ávila, also a shortstop, who signed for 15,000 dollars and appears with an excellent body type, 6.1 feet tall and 175 pounds, standing out for his speed and with an age of just 20 years.
Finally we have outfielder Eizon Delgado, another very burly teenager who is only 17 years old; with a height of 6.1 feet and 180 pounds of weight. Delgado stands out for being a good runner and having natural strength. He signed for a $30,000 bonus and has a promising long-term future with the organization.

The San Diego Padres have not turned a blind eye to young Cuban talent, adding three talented youngsters that we are going to hear a lot about in the coming years, two of them at a low cost. Cubans continue to join Major League organizations and for those who doubt the enormous flow of baseball players that our island produces, these are just three of many examples.
