“That was a huge energetic performance from us,” said Heinemann, pleased about the youngsters’ success. The people from Göttingen and the guests from North Rhine-Westphalia fought a gripping duel right from the start. In the first period, the Munsters developed a slight advantage through a strong defense and led 19:13. However, the youth team from Göttingen held back, fought their way into the game and was now also there on the offensive. The Heinemann team equalized several times, but initially the lead remained with the UBC juniors (37:34).
After the change of sides, the youngsters turned up the heat and gained self-confidence on the offensive through strong actions in defense. After trailing 48:52 in the middle of the third period, the youngsters intensified their defense, didn’t allow any more points until the end of the quarter and went into the final quarter with a 61:52 lead.
In this they then extended their lead to 13 points and completed a 17:0 run across quarters to make it 65:52. Although Münster did not give up and closed the gap to within five points, the people from Göttingen kept their nerve and secured their sixth win in a row. “The key to success was good tactical implementation and our free-throw rate of 94 percent,” said Heinemann. “I am very satisfied with the performance.”
