Uruguayan sport is preparing for the start of the Olympic cycle and with this the names that will make up the scholarships that are awarded with a view to the appointment of the 2024 Paris Games were defined.
In this environment, the Uruguayan Olympic Committee, in coordination with the Uruguayan Sports Foundation (which is also part of the National Sports Secretariat) defined the distribution of the support that corresponds to the scholarships that are obtained through Olympic Solidarity and that are renewable every six months.
In this way, the athletes who participated in the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, with the exception of the swimmer Enzo Martínez (withdrew from high performance), as well as the sailors Pablo Defazio and Dominique Knüppel (announced that they will not start a new campaign in Nacra for the time being). 17), were the ones selected to integrate the program.
In addition, at the end of December, Javier García, head of the Ministry of National Defense (MDN), signed, together with Sebastián Bauzá, National Secretary of Sports, the agreement by which the MDN allocates 15 military vacancies to high-performance federated athletes.
For this position, the athletes receive a salary, in addition to making contributions to social security and having medical coverage, with which the athlete is professionalized and recognized as a worker.
There are five athletes who are distributed in each of the three arms and it is valid until December 31, 2022, with a semester evaluation.
