Ski: Adur Etxezarreta’s historic silver in the European Downhill Cup

The Aresoarra achieves second place in the Tarvisio test (Italy), which no Spaniard had achieved in speed disciplines

The Aresoarra sprinter from the Navarra Ski Club Adur Etxezarreta managed to climb to the podium this Friday in the European Downhill Cup with silver in the event held in Tarvisio (Italy). According to the data available in the FIS, no Spaniard had previously managed to get on a podium on the continental circuit in speed disciplines. Adur Etxezarreta finally got that elusive podium after a solid career in the European Cup in recent seasons.

After the result of this Friday, he commented that “I have been waiting for this moment for a year and I have finally achieved it. Both myself and the team have done a great job. It is a very important result that gives me a lot of confidence for the future and that will help me in future World Cups, thanks to the drop in FIS points.” Its technical team is made up of Adam Peraudo and Toño Góngora, all of them under the baton of Angel Calero and Olmo Hernán.

The 25-year-old sprinter is on the rise. He already surprised with his victories in FIS speed tests in France and Italy and finished the 2019-2020 season with a 7th position in the European Cup Kvitfjell Downhill. During the 2020-2021 season, he participated in three World Cups and in the World Championships in Cortina d’Ampezzo, and in the European Cup in Santa Caterina he obtained a 6th position and a 12th position in Orcieres Merlette.

Irati Idiakez, runner-up

Irati Idiakez (Getaria, 1996) achieved this Friday the second place in the Paralympic Snowboard World Championship held in Lillehammer (Norway) behind the Polish Monika Aleksandra Kotzian. He competed in the ‘banked slalom’ mode.
