Solidarity towards Cuba is also latent in the field of sports. On this occasion, it comes through the Cuba Cooperation France (Cuban athletes to that country before the 2024 Paris Olympics”>CubaCoop) association, which promotes a project that will allow Cuban athletes to prepare on Gallic soil for the Paris-2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Víctor Fernández, president of the entity, told Prensa Latina that the initiative consists of agreeing, with French municipalities, the reception of Cuban Olympic and Paralympic athletes from various disciplines, days before entering the town of the summer event, to train under the best conditions.
Another of the objectives is to carry out friendly meetings with the hosts, as well as to strengthen the work between the homologous federations of different disciplines of both countries. An example of this, he cited judo, a sport that has given France and Cuba so much glory.
The director explained that the proposal has among its arguments the impact of the economic blockade imposed on Cuba for more than 60 years by the United States, a policy that also strongly attacks the sports sector in aspects such as the purchase of sports equipment and trips to the exterior of competitors and coaches.
At the end of 2021, Fernández led a delegation from the association to Havana, where he discussed the initiative with Inder authorities, an institution that accepted and thanked the proposal, for its contribution to the preparation of athletes and para-athletes and the adaptation to the schedule and climatic conditions of Paris.
