At the end of 2021, the Soy Más Deporte Foundation, the first to encourage, promote and support the comprehensive training and development of high-performance athletes or athletes in Colombia, took stock of what was, in figures, the year for its athletes ; reaching the figure of 95 medals during the 105 competitions in which its athletes participated.
As for the competitions, the athletes were present and won medals at the first Junior Pan American Games in Cali 2021, in which Colombia came in second place in the medal table, as well as in national championships in Ibagué, Bogotá, Popayán, San Andrés and Medellin; in addition to competitions and international open in Peru, Mexico, Portugal, Nicaragua, Spain and the United States, among others.
Well-known names such as the national artistic gymnastics champion, Daira Lamadrid (Norte de Santander), the current national judo champion, Francisco Balanta (Valle del Cauca), or the Valluno karate fighter, Juan Harvey Caicedo, are some of the athletes who have contributed to the harvest of medals this 2021 for the foundation and for the country.
In this regard, Andrés Ocampo, director of the Soy Más Deporte foundation, stressed that “these young people are the future of Colombia, they represent the country in each competition and we are with them training them from a very young age so that they continue to succeed in their lives, be excellent leaders. and bring more joy to our nation.”
In this sense, the athletes of the Soy Más deporte foundation such as Ángel Barajas (Norte de Santander), artistic gymnast, became the athlete with the most medals this 2021 by achieving 17 medals; while Camilo Vera (Norte de Santander) and Juan Harvey Caicedo, with 13 and 7 medals, close the top 3 of the most winners.
As for the athletes who won the most medals in this 2021, María Valeria Cárdenas (Antioquia) of Ultimate Frisbee, hung 8 medals, followed by Karen Bedoya (Tolima) pole vault athlete achieved 6 medals. The third place is shared by the artistic gymnast Daira Lamadrid and the athlete Tatiana Bedoya (Tolima), both with five medals.
Another achievement of the Foundation was the strategic alliance established with EF English Live at the beginning of 2021 and under which the athletes who make up the organization receive quality education in bilingualism, including athletes who have been champions in disciplines such as judo, karate, volleyball, athletics and gymnastics, among others, in order to open the doors to international sports thanks to the use of a second language.
From now on, the athletes who make up the foundation, supported by several organizations, highlighting the alliance with EF English Live, are preparing to face the 2022 sports calendar both nationally and internationally.
