In the “Copa del Rey” there was a game abandonment in the Andalusian derby. The game between Betis and Sevilla ended prematurely after an object from the stands hit Spanish professional Jordán.

Dhe round of 16 in the Spanish soccer cup “Copa del Rey” between city rivals Betis Sevilla and FC Sevilla was canceled on Saturday evening. This was confirmed by the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) on Saturday evening. Previously, Sevilla FC’s Joan Jordán had been hit in the head by an object thrown from the stands. On the TV pictures, it looked like it was a pole – it was initially unclear whether it was made of plastic or iron. The 27-year-old Spaniard Jordán then fell to the ground, holding his head, but quickly got up again. He was taken off the field, and a little later the referee sent both teams into the dressing room. The game was officially canceled 20 minutes later.

The incident unfolded after Betis equalized 1-1 through Nabil Fekir in the 39th minute. The former French international converted a corner kick directly. Papu Gómez had just given Sevilla FC the lead at the Benito Villamarín Stadium. While the game was initially interrupted for 45 minutes, police forces could be seen in the stands in the area of the stadium where the projectile apparently came from.

It was initially unclear whether the city duel in the Copa del Rey would be repeated or continued at a later date. “The RFEF condemns all acts of violence on the pitch,” wrote the Spanish Football Federation in a statement.
