Sporting Portugal threatens to be banned from European fields for three seasons. Proof of payment to Sampdoria must be on the table before January 31.
The ultimatum is the result of a decision by the UEFA appeals committee, which had rejected Sporting’s protest. The Portuguese club had reacted against Sampdoria’s claim. The Italian club believed it was entitled to a share of Bruno Fernandes‘ transfer fee after his move to Manchester United.
Sampdoria was right on his side by UEFA, but waited for the 5.5 million euros. Sporting must now provide proof that that amount has been transferred before January 31. If the Portuguese fail, they will be banned from European fields for three years.
