The Felipe Carrillo Puerto City Council suspended all sporting events in the municipality as part of the adjustments in sanitary measures to prevent the spread and contagion of Covid-19.
According to a statement issued to the different representatives and leagues of the municipality, they were asked to suspend all activities related to sports, until further notice, the idea is to prevent and not put citizens at risk.
“All leagues, tournaments, disciplines and all sports activities in our municipality will be suspended until further notice, according to data from the traffic light, since we are in yellow and due to the high level of infections that have been reported, we must follow the recommendations,” the statement said.
Alberto Oswaldo Sánchez Vivas, director of Municipal Sports, expressed that there are more than 3,500 athletes who are affected by this new provision, since more than 10 tournaments and sports leagues that are practiced in the municipality were suspended, until the risks go down. they will be re-enabled.
He commented that secondary, business, indoor sports leagues such as soccer, basketball, volleyball, baseball, to name a few, have been suspended, in addition to weightlifting disciplines; associated struggles; Athletics; table tennis; judo and boxing
He asserted that this can affect young people in their sports training, they are used to having a training routine and now that they do not have spaces to practice and exercise, they can fall into a certain anxiety, despair, because they are used to daily activation.
Juliana May Esquivel, general secretary of the Commune, maintained that the actions are being taken at the request of the highest municipal authority, to avoid the sources of infection at all costs, they cannot lower their guard and allow the cases of contagion.
“So far these are the measures we have taken, if things continue in this way other strategies will be taken for better care, but it all depends on how people behave, if they follow the recommendations, the use of face masks, avoid crowding and all that is known.”
