Jaden Agassi has the athletic genes from his parents, but tennis cannot inspire him. The son of Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi wants to become a baseball star.
Hardly anyone outside the USA understands the rules of baseball, but that could change soon: Jaden Agassi (20), the son of Steffi Graf (52) and Andre Agassi (51) is in the starting blocks for a great career as a pitcher. The 20-year-old’s record in 2021 was quite impressive, but it’s not enough to make the leap into the professional league.
Good genes and hard work
As the child of two tennis superstars, Jaden naturally tried out whether his parents’ sport could suit him. He didn’t do it, after a few balls against the garage wall, he lost interest, his father said on Instagram. Jaden also tried football, but he didn’t like the duels. So, when he was eight, he discovered baseball, a sport that is extremely popular in America and that he loves above all else.
After a successful time on the team at his high school Paolo Verde in Las Vegas, Jaden moved to Los Angeles almost two years ago to join the Trojans at UCLA. The team from the University of California plays at the front in the competitions of the College World Series, but has not won the title since 1998. Nevertheless, the Trojans collect records and are among the most successful teams in the country.
Starting difficulties due to surgery and pandemic
His start in his new life was difficult. First Jaden Agassi had to undergo a serious operation on his elbow in 2019, in which a torn ligament was replaced with a tendon, then after a five-month break he slowly started training again. Fortunately, the pandemic gave him more time to recover.
“Actually, our son Jaden wanted to start college, but unfortunately that didn’t work,” explains Steffi Graf at the gala in 2020: “So we had both children with us for a little longer. As parents, we of course enjoyed that very much.” As harmonious as Steffi and her husband Andre Agassi always appear, you can well imagine. During the season, Jaden has little time, he has long played baseball more than his parents did in tennis tournaments in their youth.
As a player in the youth league, Jaden played under the name “Rock”, the prominent surname Agassi was probably too much of a burden for him. According to youth coach Evan Greusel, his strengths include his “excellent hand-eye coordination” and “quick legs”. He also has talent and exceptional skills as a pitcher and batter.
In general, Jaden seems to be fully focused on the sport. The pictures he posted of his first big love have been deleted from his Instagram feed. A new girlfriend is not in sight, at least on social media. But like his sister Jaz Elle, Jaden is also not a big fan of constantly delivering new content.
New season and new opportunities
The new baseball season for the Trojans starts in mid-February – initially with a few home games. The coach decides whether Jaden Agassi is set up. Jaden will be fit because he learned from his parents to prepare himself for his tasks in a disciplined manner. It is really a blessing to have learned work ethics at a young age, Jaden said in an interview for the Major League Baseball website. “I know how much it takes to be the best at something.”
A total of 89 former “Trojans” made it into the Major League. Jaden Agassi wants to be a pitcher to continue this series. With athletic ambition, self-confidence and the serenity that defines his family today, he will make it. It is only important to his mother Steffi Graf that he and his sister simply have fun in and in life.
