Steven Alzate is back in the Colombian National Team

Steven Alzate is one of the great novelties in Reinaldo Rueda‘s call for the matches against Peru and Argentina for the World Cup Qualifiers. The English Colombo was included in the list of 28 players who will try to keep Colombia in direct positions at Qatar 2022. Today the team is fourth with 17 points.

Alzate returns to the National Team after a year and three months, his last call had been in October 2020 when Carlos Queiroz took him into account for the games against Venezuela and Chile for the first and second dates of the World Cup qualifiers. He played 10 minutes in Barranquilla and 61′ in Santiago, having a good performance.

This call for the steering wheel coincides with the great game he played last Tuesday with Brighton against Chelsea for date 24 of the Premier League. He was the 90 minutes in the 1-1 tie where he was the player with the most balls recovered and key passes in the last quarter of the field.

Alzate, 23 years old, has played 7 games this season, 5 were in the Premier League and 2 in the League Cup. An ankle injury left him sidelined between September and December. Now he resumed the level and little by little he gains a space in Graham Potter’s team.

Colombia will receive Peru on Friday, January 28 and will visit Argentina on Tuesday, February 1. The match at the Metropolitano will be at 4:00 pm and the other at 6:30 pm, Colombian time.
