All eyes in the MLB are on the signings of international prospects that are announced from this Saturday, including that of Roderick Arias with the New York Yankees.
But Arias was not the only promise to receive a millionaire bonus, these were the prospects who received the most money from Major League organizations.
Outfielder Cristian Vaquero, born in Cuba, was ranked second in the ranking of the best international prospects in MLB and first according to Baseball America. He’s lefty, covers a lot of ground in centerfield and has a powerful arm. He is also a good hitter and has shown speed. The Nationals gave the 17-year-old West Indian a $4.9 million bonus and that means 90% of his international signing pool, which was set at $5,179,700. Vaquero trained in the Dominican Republic when he left his country while negotiating his entry into organized baseball in the United States.
