Founded in 1975 and then chaired by Roland Tersol, the association was first named Compagnie d’arc de Chênedet before becoming a year later Coigny bow company, in reference to one of the towers of the castle of Fougères.

Aged 10 to 78, the 62 members, including 15 young people, practice archery there, on a coat of arms (or target) or in 3D on foam animals.

“We start with a gradual grasp of the equipment to acquire the different shooting styles, from Apache shooting, where we look at the arrow in order to aim, to Swedish shooting with a bow equipped with a sight, and an arrow rest. »

From September to April, the archers train indoors, at the Ateliers and join Paron on sunny days to practice outdoors. “We can then increase the shooting distance up to 70 meters”, specifies the president.

The competition is not obligatory, but many members engage in it, from the Departmental to France, in team, individual and mixed and some regularly reach the national level. “We organize two competitions a year, one indoors and one outdoors, which attracts around 250 people each time”.

A commitment and dynamism rewarded by the ambition silver level label that the Company has held for 4 years.

Although he recognizes that archery is not necessarily an exciting sport for spectators, Didier Lejars would like to point out that it is a very accessible discipline, which does not require physical skills:

“It’s a static sport, even a person with a disability can do it.”

The main thing is to be diligent in training, to have the mind, concentration and perseverance and to strictly follow the safety rules. For this last point, supervision is essential: “We have five coaches, but we would like to have more, as well as referees”.

President Didier Lejars

Didier Lejars came to archery somewhat by chance. “I went to the Forum des associations to find a ping-pong club. There were none at the time, in 2012. I saw archery, a discipline that I had followed to the Olympics, and I signed up for them”. Adult coach with Régis, in October 2021 he took over from Claire Chevalot, president for 15 years.
