A times, the gestures of the champions are measured more in defeats than in victories. And this is the conclusion we could reach after Lionel Messi‘s performance during ‘The Best‘ gala yesterday, Monday, to which the player was not invited in person at Zurich, FIFA headquarters.
Thus, despite knowing for days that he was not going to win the award, FIFA asked the Argentine to be very aware of the gala… and Leo was at his home in Paris in front of the iPad almost an hour watching, sportingly, how the trophy went to the side of Robert Lewandowski.
It was a human and affectionate gesture towards a Robert With which, already at the last Ballon d’Or gala, Leo had a gesture praised by all when he commented, at the end of that act in Paris, that someone should reward the great year that the Bayern striker had.
Said and done. Leo didn’t get up from his seat yesterday throughout the gala –about an hour – and was present as the second classified. That already happened at the ‘The Best’ 2020 gala, also won by ‘Lewy’, and which the Argentine witnessed virtually from his home in Castelldefels (Barcelona).
Let us remember that, although it seems strange, Lewandowski already has more ‘The Best’ (two, 2020 and 2021) than Leo Messi (2019). The only other footballer who has two ‘The Best’ is Cristiano Ronaldo (2016 and 2017).
