The Criollos take the lead in the final series of professional baseball

The Caguas Creoles opened the final series of the Roberto Clemente Professional Baseball League with a tight 2-1 result over the Indios de Mayagüez at the Isidoro “Cholo” García stadium.

The match was decided in the eighth episode when, with the score level 1-1, David Vidal hit a sacrifice fly that brought Johneshwy Fargas to the plate.

Fargas opened the inning with an infield hit. Then, Engel Beltré was hit by a pitch to place two runners on base with no outs. They were advanced with a sacrifice bunt from Jonathan Morales.

Immediately after, Vidal’s sacrifice bass came on the first pitch from reliever Fernando Cruz, who charged the backhand for the Indians.

Cruz threw two innings and gave way to a couple of hits with one return. Left-hander Zach Muckenhirn scored the win in relief for the Creoles with two-thirds of innings pitched.

Right-hander Yordy Cabrera started the game for Caguas and didn’t allow a score in five innings. He had three hits and struck out two batters.

The Criollos produced the first run of the match in the third act, thanks to a brace from Beltré. Mayagüez’s only score occurred in the seventh inning with a pitch that Brett Rodríguez received with the bases congested before the shipments of Aneuris Rosario.

Muckenhirn, Alexis Díaz, Ricardo Vélez and closer Ricardo Gómez, who made the save, pitched in impeccable relief for Caguas.

The series continues tomorrow, Sunday, with the second game at 7:10 pm, at the Yldefonso Solá Morales stadium in Caguas.
