The 2022/11/2020-2022-historic-european-double-for-france-in-baseball5/” title=”2020-2022: Historic European double for France in Baseball5″>Baseball5 French Open will take place on January 22 and 23 in Montpellier. A second edition which testifies to the rise of an accessible and playful discipline.
In 2021, the French Open had passed its turn. While the health crisis linked to Covid-19 was hitting the sports world hard, the French Federation of Baseball and Softball had logically decided to cancel the competition. But at the start of the year, the good news quickly reached the players concerned: the Baseball5 French Open is going to take place. More precisely on January 22 and 23 in the Hérault, near Montpellier.
Successful first edition at INSEP
The second edition of this competition will also be the first event on the official calendar in 2022. In January 2020, the very first edition was won by the young Squales team. A competition which was then held in the premises of INSEP, in Paris. For the occasion, 16 teams, or 124 participants, from the four corners of France competed in 65 matches. For Baseball5 and the federation, the fact that the second edition can take place validates the success of the first test.
A fashionable discipline
An urban version of baseball-softball, Baseball5 is hugely successful both in France and internationally. Fast, fun, simple and accessible, Baseball5 is a mixed discipline that is played five against five without bats or gloves and on any surface. All it takes is a ball that the batter puts into play directly by hitting it with the palm of his hand. A discipline accessible and likely to appeal to the greatest number. Baseball5 will also be particularly in the spotlight in 2022. The first edition of the Baseball5 U18 European Championships and the first WBSC Baseball5 World Cup are planned. France will obviously be there for these two meetings, with the hope of shining there.
