Brazilian striker Robson de Souza ‘Robinho’ received this Wednesday the confirmation by the Supreme Court Italian of his sentence to nine years in prison for a gang rape of a young Albanian woman in 2013 in Milan (Italy).
The sentence, issued when the process began in 2017, was already confirmed in December 2020 by the Milan Court of Appeal. The third instance to which Robinho appeals issued the same result of guilt against him and his friend Ricardo Falco for the crime of sexual abuse.
Robinho’s lawyers appealed to this Court of Cassation, a court in the country’s judicial system equivalent to a Supreme Court, but, as reported by The Gazzetta dello Sport, the Supreme Court did not change the sentence, being Now the question is the extradition of the former AC Milan player.
The Italian justice should send a formal request to the Brazilian justice, to start an internal evaluation. Since the player resides in Brazil and the country does not extradite its citizens, it should be the Italian judiciary that issues a Player’s arrest warrant for when traveling in any European country.
The Brazilian is without a team after his relationship with Santos was terminated in October 2020 due to said trial. according to Gazette, for the Supreme Court, some phone calls were decisive in which Robinho recounted the night of the rape: “I’m laughing because I don’t care. The woman was drunk. She doesn’t even know what happened.”
