Sotheby’s announced the auction of 200 pairs of exclusive sneakers resulting from a collaboration between Nike and Louis Vuitton designed by the recently deceased Virgil Abloh, artistic director of the fashion house since 2018.
This is the first time that this model has been sold to the public, some Nike Air Force 1 Decorated with a combination of Louis Viutton’s two signature prints, the Monogram – which combines shades of brown with the brand’s logo – and the Damier – a checkered design in cream and gray colours.
This model, which will be auctioned online between January 26 and February 8 with a starting price of two thousand dollars, will not be auctioned again nor will it be put up for sale later.
The collaboration between Louis Vuitton and Nike, Sotheby’s said in a statement, was designed for the Spring-Summer 2022 collection, and will be sold with a luxurious deep orange Louis Vuitton briefcase emblazoned with the Parisian company’s logo.
The shoes, made with calf leather, will be offered in various sizes – from 5 to 18 in US sizes – and are a tribute to the hip-hop culture that influenced the young American designer of Ghanaian parents, who in 2018 he became the first African-American to be appointed artistic director of a French luxury fashion house.
Proceeds from the auction will go to The Virgin Abloh ‘Port Modern’ Scholarship Fund, which aims to further the education of promising young Black, African American and African descendants.
