The rumor ‘Roberto Martinez to Everton’ tenses a former club: “Is it a joke?”

Thanked Sunday after another defeat at the head of Everton, Rafael Benitez therefore leaves a vacant seat in the Premier League formation. Several names have circulated and the place seems to be played out between Duncan Ferguson, Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard to succeed the Spanish tactician.

Quoted among the Toffees, Robert Martinez obviously did not respond to the interest, retained in particular by the Belgian Federation. Information suitable for Victor Anichebe, a former Everton striker with around 200 appearances between 2006 and 2013.

“I heard Martinez’s name has been floating around at Everton: is that a joke? He finished fifth in his first season with the team set up by his predecessor David Moyes. People don’t seem to remember what happened in the past. There were many protests for him to leave the club. Taking Martinez as a replacement for Benitez would be going from one toxic situation to another.”, lambasted the 33-year-old Nigerian, a former international on eleven occasions and also active in the past at WBA and Sunderland, for Sky Sport.

When we take a look at the course of the colossus Anichebe (1.90 meters), we realize that he left the Toffees in September 2013, less than three months after Martinez took office at Everton. A certain rancor may still weigh on the Nigerian, trained at the club in 2003.

Fifth in 2013-2014, Martinez led his squad to 11th place in 2014-2015 and also to 11th place the following season. The Catalan tactician will be thanked by the English team just before the last day of the championship, in May 2016. Three months later, he will be appointed federal coach of the Red Devils, with whom he has a current contract until the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
