Théo Bongonda called by the Democratic Republic of Congo!

The 26-year-old winger will leave at the end of the month for an internship with the “Leopards”, not qualified for the African Cup of Nations which is currently being played in Cameroon. During this, a preparation match will also be on the program for the play-offs for the next World Cup which will take place in Qatar at the end of the year.

Bongonda has been playing since the summer of 2019 under the colors of KRC Genk and is regularly associated with the Diables Rouges. However, although his name was mentioned regularly by the media, he never obtained the slightest summons from the federal coach Roberto Martinez. Since he also has Congolese nationality, Théo Bongonda now seems to be heading towards this selection. A choice which would not yet be definitively ratified after the friendly meeting during the internship, since only official matches are taken into account to “validate” a nationality on the sporting level. As long as he has not played an official match for the DRC, Théo Bongonda is still selectable by Roberto Martinez.
