With the start of the new season of the State Basketball League (LBE), the mayor of Chihuahua, Marco Bonilla, participated in the presentation of the complete roster of Dorados de Chihuahua players and the Technical Director who will be in charge of the team, as well as how the uniforms they will wear (home, visit and gala) this season were announced.
In the presentation, Manolo Hussein Viera, who is of Spanish origin, whose debut as an assistant was in 1988, later rose as coach in the ACB League (Association of Basketball Clubs), was announced as technical director of the Dorados team. Spain’s highest professional circuit, where he has directed more than 600 games, also managed to catapult three teams to promotion in the Spanish League, adding to the runner-up in the Spanish Super Cup with Valencia BC
The mayor, Marco Bonilla, commented that the municipality continues to bet on sports and economic development through the promotion of sports tourism; “Sport is a priority issue for this administration and we are committed to supporting and promoting it. That is why I am happy to be here today, at the presentation of the team that will play in this 2022 State Basketball League,” he said.
For his part, he recognized Manolo Hussein Viera for his new position; “I want to give you, on behalf of the municipality of Chihuahua, a warm welcome and wish you the best of success for coming from Spain to lead the Dorados team this season; I have no doubt that it will allow us to become two-time champions of the league this year,” he said.
The director of the Municipal Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (IMCFD), Juan Abdo, announced that the Dorados de Chihuahua team will be supported with an investment of 6 million pesos, with the aim of promoting the participation of representative teams of the Municipality in Professional Leagues.
The first game of the season will take place this Friday, January 28 at 8:00 pm in the Manuel Bernardo Aguirre (MBA) gym, where a duel will be played against the Cowboys of Agua Prieta; In addition, Dorados has a total of seven games scheduled at home.
The president of Club Dorados de Chihuahua, Anwar Elías Ortiz, thanked the Mayor for his willingness to support the field of sports, as well as collaborators from the private sector who participated in this work.
It is worth mentioning that for this season a new franchise will be registered from another team that will represent the Municipality of Chihuahua, with the name “Apaches”, who will hold the first meeting between teams from the capital on February 5 at the MBA and on March 5 at the Rodrigo M. Quevedo Gymnasium.
The players that will be part of the team are: José Estrada, JC Fuller, Titi Cortés, Daniel Girón, Irwin Ávalos, Charles Mitchel, Israel Gutiérrez, Antonio Peña, David Rico, Uriel Velis, as well as two players from the Municipality of Chihuahua, Ricardo Valdez Valdes and Bryan Urrutia.
The event was attended by the director of the Chihuahuan Institute of Sports and Physical Culture of the State Government, Teporaca Romero; the president of the State Basketball League, Tomás Hernández Silos; and the administrative manager of Dorados Chihuahua, Andrea Villarreal.
