Thibau Nys will appear at the start of the Cyclo-cross World Championships in Fayetteville next week. The young Belgian has recovered sufficiently from the shoulder injury he sustained during a fall during the Belgian championship in Middelkerke.
Nys was busy with a strong series around the turn of the year with victories in the U23 crosses of Loenhout, Baal and Herentals. However, during the Belgian championship in Middelkerke last Sunday, the 19-year-old cyclo-cross rider had an unfortunate fall and sustained an injury to the shoulder. He also suffered from back pain. His participation in the World Cup in Fayetteville had suddenly become uncertain.
His shoulder injury has now recovered sufficiently to be competitive again, reports his Baloise Trek Lions team social media. Nys can therefore just start in the U23 cross at the world championship in the United States, which is scheduled for Saturday 29 January. He will make his comeback in the field on Saturday, in the X²O Trophy Hamme. Nys has good memories of the Flandriencross, which he won as a junior in 2018.
