A former MLB pitcher who came to wear the uniform of the New York Yankees, Sergio Mitre, is in the headlines for a tragic news.
Miter, born in the United States and of Mexican descent, played for eight seasons in the Major Leagues. This Friday the right, who is already 40 years old, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for the crime of femicide to the detriment of a baby.
In 2020, Miter was arrested for beating his stepdaughter Inés, just one year and 10 months old and the daughter of his partner. The little girl died as a result of the blows received.
In addition to the prison sentence, the jury requires that he offer a public apology and pay a fine of one million 379 thousand pesos to repair the damage.
Miter also pitched in the majors for the Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers, Florida Marlins and in Mexico for the Saltillo Saraperos. It is precisely in Saltillo where he is imprisoned and there he will serve his sentence.
In 134 games in the Major Leagues, Miter left a balance of 13-30, an ERA of 5.21 and 265 strikeouts in 454.2 innings.
In his career he accumulated profits of 5,215,000 million dollars. His best contract was with the Yankees, who in 2010 signed him as a free agent for $900,000.
