In last week’s Crypto Twitter roundup, we included “Desperate Housewives” Star Eva Longoria‘s open announcement that she was “jumping into the #NFT space. ” She’d asked her 7 million followers for advice on where to start and the answers were predictably full of people selling her their NFT projects.

He did not delay. On Monday, she changed her profile picture with her first NFT purchase: a World of Women NFT. World of Women is a collection of illustrations by artist Yam Karkai “containing 10,000 works by diverse and powerful women” according to Description. (done Karkai decipherThe list of most innovative NFT artists of 2021.)

Not everyone applauded the move. University of Toronto Law Professor Anna Su replied, “I love you and Klay, but I hope you can use your platform to support more sustainable cryptocurrency mining practices. no future if cryptocurrencies end up destroying the planet.

Vitalik asks to be roasted

On Thursday, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin created some fun for everyone when he swallowed his pride and shared some of the cruellest roasts he received on Twitter, and also asked for more: “What are the crazier and wilder criticisms of me? ” seen on Twitter or elsewhere? “

Some of the jokes were very obscure, like the user’s one @FirstFedora: “His destiny was to blow up a school, unfortunately he failed.” Many respondents made fun of Vitalik’s lean frame, in this way @XRPmemeguy: “The most positive part about Vitalik going to jail is that he will finally get 3 meals a day.”

But our favorite was this harmless pun on “cursive” Buterin, which was our meme of the week in Decrypt the weekend debrief email on Saturday.

Buterin also published a series of polls asking his Ethereum-loving followers which altcoins they would use in a world without Ethereum. In the first round, the options were Bitcoin, USDC, Solana, and Cardano. Surprisingly, Cardano beat Bitcoin with 43% of the 600,000 votes versus Bitcoin’s 38%.

Buterin then asked the same question in another survey, this time with several options: TRON, Binance Coin, Neo, and the Chinese digital yuan (CNY). TRON was the clear winner, getting 51% of the 359,000 votes, more than double the votes of any other option.

FWB starts one of its own

Tuesday brought what could be a pivotal moment for the future of how decentralized organizations approach member conduct issues, and it all took place on Twitter.

It started when 25-year-old Cooper Turley, a mega-influencer in the land of DAO, tweeted: “What you do after 8pm shows how much you want to win.” Jackson Dame, another cryptocurrency influencer who does community and content for the Ethereum Rainbow wallet, denounced Turley’s tweet for promoting an unhealthy work-life balance, something that Turley’s tweets had been criticized for in the past. Dame called Turley a “bad influence”.

Dame then found and tweeted some of Turley’s tweets from high school, which included repeated use of the n-word and homophobic slurs.

Turley apologized for the tweets Wednesday morning, saying, “So, I’ve developed a terrible habit of casually using racial and homophonic slurs to fit in.” He wrote “they were unacceptable and deeply offensive. I was young, stupid and careless. That does not rule out how hideous these observations were, and still are.

By Friday, popular DAO Friends With Benefits (FWB), a cryptocurrency-backed social club that Turley helped create, announced that after a vote in committee, Turley’s removal from DAO leadership and even his suspension as a member. for two “seasons”.

FWB’s actions have met their own criticism from those who feel it was a step too far for a decentralized crypto organization to start a member on tweets nine years ago.

Turley has announced that he will step back from the many DAOs he’s involved in, but that’s not likely to be the end of the discussion about this event. It raises crucial questions about how crypto communities will deal with similar controversies.
