Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback and NFL legend is retiring after 22 seasons and a record seven Super Bowls, ESPN has announced, citing sources close to the player.
The current 44-year-old Buccaneers quarterback left his future up in the air after his team’s elimination by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL divisional round on Sunday.
The Californian, who has one more season on his contract in Tampa and until now had not ruled out playing beyond the age of 45, would have decided to end his career.
With Brady, one of the great legends in the history of American football leaves, if not the greatest.
What is certain is that the most successful of all those who have passed through this sport is retiring. His career began in 2000, when he was chosen in the sixth round of the draft (position 199) by the New England Patriots. It was in that team where he became great. The following year he won his first Super Bowl, and then five more came with the Massachusetts team.
In 2020, when he was already thinking about retiring, he took another step towards legend by signing with the Tampa Bay Buccanners, whom he led to the title that same season.
Brady retires with the record for passing yards, set in 2021, and the record for touchdown passes.
Married to the Brazilian model Giselle Bundchen, with whom he has two children, Brady wants to spend more time with his family, as he advanced last week after being eliminated: «My wife is my greatest support. It hurts him to see me get hit around. And he deserves what he needs from me as a husband and my children deserve what they need from me as a father. And I’m going to spend some time with them and give them what they need, because they’ve really been giving me what I need to do for the last six months, what I love to do.”
