Trahan, Dr André G.
1938-2022
At the CIUSSS MCQ-Centre d’hébergement Cooke in Trois-Rivières, on January 16, 2022, died at the age of 83, Dr. André G. Trahan, husband of Mrs. Denise Lafontaine, residing in St-Maurice. He was the son of the late Louis-Georges Trahan and the late Monique Arvisais.
For André, medicine was a vocation. He made it his passion for just over 46 years. He has worked, among other things, in the various emergency services and accommodation centers in the region, at the Trois-Rivières detention facility, at his office in St-Maurice. He also worked as a Coroner.
He was able to put medicine at the service of sport, which was another of his passions, by getting involved in various organizations from the start of his career to the end.
Baseball, in particular, occupied a special place: he founded the Conférence de Baseball Rural de la Mauricie, was actively involved in Baseball Québec, Baseball Canada and Baseball International. In addition, hockey has also been very important in André’s life. For example, he got involved with the Patriotes de l’UQTR as well as for the Memorial Cup in Shawinigan in 2012.
He worked as a doctor during the Summer Olympics in Montreal in 1976. He had the honor of carrying the Olympic flame during the Winter Olympics in Calgary in 1987.
To name just this one, of all the associations and foundations to which he devoted his time, the Claude-Mongrain Foundation, of which he was the founder, was particularly close to his heart.
He was awarded the Order of Canada medal. He was a recipient of the Order of La Vérendrye. He was inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame in Mauricie.
To you who are a man of heart, a good man, a man of commitment, we say to you: “Goodbye André! Rest in peace! »

He leaves to mourn, in addition to his wife Denise Lafontaine, his daughter Sandra Trahan; his granddaughters Audrey-Ann and Camilya Dubord; his sister Noella Trahan; his uncle Abbé Louis Trahan; his sister-in-law Réjane Masse (late Léonce Lafontaine); his nephews and nieces: Éric Trahan, Pierre Lafontaine, Guylaine Toupin (late Yvan Lafontaine), Serge Lafontaine, Luce Lafontaine (Gérald Filion), Daniel Lafontaine (Karen Guilbault), Michel Lafontaine (Édith Ellefsen), Marc Lafontaine (Linda DeSerres) , Marie-Claude Lafontaine (Eric Meloche), Kristine Lafontaine (Marc Stringer); his uncles, aunts, cousins, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, friends as well as all the people who had a special bond with André. Without forgetting his assistant for 46 years of practice, Ms. Rita Bouchard Pronovost, his medical colleagues and those of the many associations in which he was involved.
Preceded him, his daughter Marie, his sister, his brothers-in-law and his sisters-in-law: Yolande Trahan (Robert Bouchard), Léonce Lafontaine, Pierre Lafontaine, Jules Lafontaine (Aline Giroux), Hélène Lafontaine.
With all our hearts, we affectionately thank all the extraordinary staff of the Cooke Residential Center (Unit D3 and A1-B1) especially Dr. Marie Larouche. We express our gratitude to Dr. Lucie Lavoie, geriatrician, who knew how to make all the difference to André at the start of his illness.
