Tsitsipas outclasses Sinner and reveals his secret: “Modesty” | Australian Open

Tsitsipas revealed the secret of his smooth success: “My modesty. I knew I was going to meet a very good player and simply concentrated on my best shots. It went better than I could have hoped.”

The lucid Greek offered Sinner no chance in his first quarterfinal down-under. He hit 30 winners, converted his 4 breakballs and did not allow a single breakball on his own service.

The performance of Tsitsipas, who had another operation on his elbow at the end of November, is all the more remarkable, because he has struggled so far in Melbourne: 4 sets in the 2nd and 3rd rounds and 5 sets in the 1/8th final against Fritz.

“My doctor will be watching. He thought I wouldn’t make it to the Australian Open, I proved him wrong.”

Tsitsipas will compete for a place in the final against the Russian Daniil Medvedev (ATP-2) or the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime (ATP-9). In the other semifinal, Spaniard Rafael Nadal (ATP-5) will face Italian Matteo Berrettini (ATP-7). They pushed through yesterday.

For Stefanos Tsitsipas it is his third semifinal in Australia. Last year he lost to Medvedev, in 2019 Nadal was too strong. The Greek has never won a Grand Slam title.

He made it to the final at Roland Garros last year, where he collided with Novak Djokovic. The Serb was also the defending champion at the Australian Open, but the number 1 in the world is not available in Melbourne due to the fuss about his visa.
