Two Aston Villa players hit by projectiles thrown by Everton supporters

The Premier League meeting between Everton and Aston Villa was marred by incidents after Buendia‘s opener late in the first half. As the Aston Villa players celebrated their goal near the corner post, two players, Lucas Digne and Matty Cash, were hit by projectiles sent from the stands by Toffees supporters.

The two players remained lying on the ground for several seconds after receiving plastic bottles in the head. It is no coincidence that Digne, author of the corner kick taken victoriously by Buendia, was targeted, he who signed this winter at Aston Villa from … Everton. Before the match, he had already been whistled by his former supporters.

In the wake of these incidents, the referee whistled for half-time. It resumed normally a quarter of an hour later, Digne and Cash having been able to resume their place on the side of the Villains.
