Jakarta

The AFF has released the schedule for the 2022 AFF U-23 Cup which will be held in Cambodia. The U-23 Indonesian National Team, which is in Group B, will start their work on February 15.

In Group B, the U-23 national team is joined by Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos. This biennial tournament will again be held in Cambodia like the 2019 edition.

The event, which currently uses the U-23 category, will be held on February 14-26. The national team was the defending champion at the 2019 AFF Cup which still used the U-22 category.

The U-23 national team will play its first match against Laos on 15 February. Myanmar became the second opponent on February 18 and last faced Malaysia February 21.

The national team coach Shin Tae-yong relied on many mainstay players in the 2020 AFF Cup. There were Ernando Ari, Primary Arhan, Alfeandra Dewangga, Rizky Ridho, Rachmat Irianto, Syahrian Abimanyu, Ramai Rumakiek, to Hanis Saghara.

While other participants rely a lot on young players. For example, Malaysia and Vietnam chose to field a squad of U-21 players.

Thailand is even younger by fielding U-19 players. Seeing this condition, the U-23 national team has a great opportunity to achieve achievements.

Only group winners from three groups (Group A, Group B, Group C) will advance to the semifinals. While the other 1 team was taken from the best runner-up.

Schedule of the Indonesian U-23 National Team in Group B of the U-23 AFF Cup:

1. 15 February 2022: Indonesia vs Laos
2. 18 February 2022: Myanmar vs Indonesia
3. 21 February 2022: Indonesia vs Malaysia.
