Unicaja Banco Oviedo Baloncesto fell in Melilla on its return to competition after a new break due to positives in the squad. Those from Lezkano, very irregular, escaped in the second quarter thanks mainly to the success of Frey and the work in the two areas of Kabasele. At the break, they left with a nine-point lead (32-41). However, things changed after the third quarter. The OCB was not able to impose itself defensively and the locals scored in practically every possession, spurred on by a masterful Mazaira. Despite everything, Xavier’s awakening and McDonnell’s fight put the Asturians ahead again. Oviedo entered the last quarter with a two-point lead (57-59). That’s when the lights went out for Lezkano’s squad, which added numerous inaccuracies in attack to its weak defense. Melilla accumulated an advantage of up to seven points when the final stretch of the match was already in sight, but the feisty OCB emerged and a two plus one from Kamba and a triple from Xavier equalized the contest half a minute from the end. The locals took advantage of their possession to add two and the last ball remained for Oviedo. Then the referees appeared. Xavier missed the triple and Kamba scored on the tap. Initially they conceded the basket and called a foul on the Canadian forward but, after meeting, they decided to cancel it and called the foul on Arteaga. The captain only converted the first shot, and Kamba missed the rebound to consummate a painful defeat.
