Goodbye? Absences? They are welcome: a reborn Varese breaks Trento 84-90 and takes the second consecutive victory.
Hero of the day once again Marcus Keene, match winner against Venice, monstrous tonight too: 31 points and a flurry of triples that leave no way out to Dolomiti Energia. But after two weeks of Roijakkers cure, it is the team performance that is sensational for Varese: rotations to 10, contribution of each individual (in double digits also Beane e an excellent Reyes debut), defense, incredible rebounding dominance with all members and young people (Virginio and Librizzi) protagonists.
It seems like a dream after the sadness accumulated for months. Trento is the other protagonist of a beautiful match: Flaccadori star (23 points for the blue) and a lot of trouble, but in the end Openjobmetis proves stronger, more beautiful, more eager. Reborn.
The red and white leave contracts: 16-6 at 6 ‘(20-9 at 5’), with Flaccadori and Reynolds who abuse the tonnage of De Nicolao and Librizzi (in starting quintet). The embarrassment lasts very little: on the wings of Keene’s bombs and of the immediately fragrant usefulness of newcomer Reyes, the away team places one “Answer” of 15-2 which allows you to close the first 10 minutes of contact (24-23). In the second quarter Trento tries to regain the ball of the match, finding +4 twice: Ferrero and his teammates, however, continue to grind the game judiciously, they show up with all the effective (Sorokas and Vene also scored) and, with an excellent intuition on Roijakkers ‘last timeout, they sign – thanks to Reyes’ dunk – another link to the second siren (42-42).
E the balance does not break even in the third quarter: Beane almost alone remedies the sprint start in Trento with Williams, Saunders and Mezzanotte, then the two teams alternate in command. Varese, to tell the truth, is a little too wrong in attack (Keene falls asleep), but in defense he keeps well, propitiating – after the hosts’ 64-60 – a comeback in the last minutes in which Nicolò Virginio is also very useful (64-64 at 30 ‘). Everything is decided in the sprint: first it’s up to a superlative Caruso to make “wood”, then the offensive stage is all of Marcus Keene. One bomb after another the red and white elf builds the advantage (77-83 at 38 ‘), Saunders and Reynolds reply with the same coin (82-83), the American does not give up and closes it.
Varese rises to 10 in the standings, taking up Cremona and Fortitudo. With one game less, though …
