Meet Robin Tabeling!
Nick Fransman was allowed to take the place of Jim Middelburg in the men’s doubles this evening. Together with Russell Muns he played against the recently retired Wessel van der Aar and the Dane Mathias Thyrri. Russell and Nick had to warm up in the first set, but took the lead at the end and took the set. With a flat and attacking game they made the men of Drop Shot falter, after which they won the second set fairly easily. The regular double ladies Myke Halkema and Milou Lugters played against Alyssa Tirtosentono and Christine Busch Andreasen. The competition was marked by many long rallies. However, Alyssa and Christine played a better game and took the win.
Nick played his single against Lars Kros just like last time. Lars tried his best, but Nick was a size too big. Nick took this match in two sets. Hanna Couwenhoven played her single against Jayme Laurens on the other track. Hanna played coolly and took the lead in the third set. This gave VELO a 3-1 lead over Drop Shot. Dion Rovers was then up against good old Dicky Palyama. Dicky was in control from the start and Dion got better in the second set. Nevertheless, the match went to Dicky. Substitute Veda Diemel was allowed to sing against Novi Wieland. However, Veda didn’t get into her game and couldn’t get a grip on the match. Novi took the win in two sets.
With a score of 3-3, the mixes had to start. Ruben Kweekel and Milou Lugters played against the Danes Mathias Thyrri and Christine Busch Andreasen, but they were unable to pull the match their way. On the other court, Jim Middelburg and Myke Halkema played a three-setter against Alyssa Tirtosentono and Wessel van der Aar. Jim and Myke started the match well, but in the second set they went a little too much with the game of Drop Shot. They recovered in the third set and it was an easy win. This brought the final score of the game to a 4-4 draw.
VELO currently occupies fourth place in the championship group and is three points behind Drop Shot. On Sunday, January 16, the first team of VELO Badminton will play an away match against BC DKC at 2:00 PM.
