Wayne Rooney takes a stand on the offer to coach Everton. The 36-year-old man refused to gush The Toffees.

According to The Athletic’s report, Rooney admitted that he was contacted by Everton on Friday (28/1/2022), for the possibility of coaching, replacing the sacked Rafael Benitez. However, Rooney refused.

“Everton approached my agent and asked me to be interviewed for the job,” Rooney said.

“But I turned it down. I believed I was going to be a Premier League manager and I was ready for it 100 per cent. But I have a job at Derby, which is important to me,” said Wayne Rooney.

Currently, Rooney is still coaching Derby County. The former Manchester United, Everton, DC United and Derby County player has coached Derby since last season.

After being rejected by Rooney, Everton reportedly still have two other candidates to replace Benitez. They are Frank Lampard and Vitor Pereira.

Lampard has previously had an interview with Everton. Finally, Lampard had coached Chelsea, but was sacked last year.

Meanwhile, Vitor Pereira has been rejected by Everton fans. Supporters criticized him for wanting to be coached by Frank Lampard.
