Who is Djokovic’s wife Jelena? She likes to share conspiracy content

Rarely has an entry been such a drama of tension. Millions of people around the world watch the case of tennis professional Novak Djokovic. But his wife Jelena also gives reason to take a closer look.

“Thank you, dear people around the world, for using your voice to send love to my husband,” she wrote on her Instagram account on January 7th. Jelena Djokovic, wife of the Serbian record tennis player, thanks the supporters and wants to send a message: My husband was not to blame – he behaved honestly. She does not mention that there are considerable doubts about this in the face of the immigration farce (here you can read all the background information on the case).

Social media post fuss

More than 570,000 people follow the 35-year-old Serbian on Instagram, and there are almost 150,000 more on Twitter. She regularly plays content from her family life on the platforms. She and Novak Djokovic have two children: their seven-year-old son Stefan and their four-year-old daughter Tara. Couples photos can also be found in abundance on the social media profiles. One of them is currently causing a stir.

Jelena and Novak Djokovic can be seen on a museum tour. The twenty-time Grand Slam winner will be honored on this day for his sporting achievements and will receive his own Serbian postage stamp. The museum director directs him and his wife through the Serbian national post office. The Djokovic couple wears neither mouth and nose protection nor can it be seen that distance rules are being observed. But as it became known in the course of the court hearing on Monday, Novak Djokovic allegedly received a positive PCR test the day before, on December 16. At this point, when he was strolling through the interior with strangers, judging by the result, he seems to have been Corona-positive.

That doesn’t seem to be a cause for excitement in Serbia. Djokovic is considered a national hero and is celebrated frenetically despite his misconduct. When questions arose at a press conference held by the Djokovic family on Monday as to why he took part in public events after his alleged infection, the press conference is canceled without further ado.

Sharing conspiracy content

But the fact that dubious attitudes towards the corona virus prevail in the Djokovic family and also on the part of his wife is not new. In April 2020, Jelena Djokovic spread a video on Instagram claiming that the 5G mobile communications standard was to blame for the spread of Sars-Cov-2. An absurd conspiracy belief, which at the time was booming among corona deniers and comes along without any factual basis. Instagram marked the video as “False Information”. It can no longer be accessed via Jelena Djokovic’s account. But the tennis star’s wife has not deleted her post to this day.

It is well known that Novak Djokovic is also prone to crude ideas. In 2020 he preached to his followers that the power of prayer could supposedly turn “poisonous” water into healing water. His visits to Mount Visocica in Bosnia and Herzegovina also fit into this picture. Djokovic believes that he can strengthen his immune system by receiving healing powers from the mountain through hand contact. Allegedly, he should even be convinced that he is armed against a disease with Covid-19.

She is his childhood sweetheart

His wife Jelena keeps his back free. She is not only the director of the “Novak Djokovic Foundation”, but also his childhood sweetheart. She and Novak Djokovic have been a couple since 2005. They got engaged in September 2013 and said yes a year later. “I am so blessed to have him and I couldn’t have asked for a better partner than him,” Jelena told “Hello” magazine on the occasion of the 2014 wedding.

Since then she has always been by his side. At major tennis tournaments, she sits in the stands, cheering her “Nole”. Will that also be the case at the Australian Open from January 17th to 30th? Not clear. No one can foresee which volte the Djokovic case will hit next. One thing is clear: the Serb has already won the tournament nine times – more often than anyone else. If he is allowed to participate and win, he is the sole record winner of the Grand Slam. However, if he has to leave, his story is enriched by a curious chapter.
