Wolff reveals ‘key moment’: crucial meeting with Hamilton in February

Toto Wolff will meet with Lewis Hamilton by February at the latest. The Mercedes team boss hopes the Briton will take revenge on the track next season for what happened in Abu Dhabi.

After the last race in Abu Dhabi, where Hamilton painfully and controversially missed out on the world title, the Briton has been silent. So it remains to be seen whether he will return to the grid in 2022. All preparations at Mercedes are now in full swing and the first tests in Barcelona are scheduled in just under a month. Mercedes would like to have things in order before then.

In conversation with the Spanish AS the Austrian once again expresses his compassion for the Briton. “He will never forget what happened in Abu Dhabi. What happened to Lewis was just a mistake. He was unbeatable that day, until the stewards got involved in a certain way. It is still difficult to understand and remains with us forever. Even though Max Verstappen was a worthy champion all year, Lewis was better that day,” he says.

key moment

Meanwhile, life at Mercedes goes on. The presentation for the new car is scheduled for February 18 and photos of Hamilton are regularly shared on social media. Wolff has a Hamilton meeting planned and that should be the key moment. “It just takes time. We’ll finally meet in February. Then we won’t drink tequila,” Wolff jokes. “I did that enough in Abu Dhabi.”
