You’re starting to feel sorry for him… Sebastian Andersson (30) just can’t get on his feet in Cologne.
The Swede not only showed again at 1: 3 in Leipzig that he can’t even come close to replacing Anthony Modeste (33). Doubts are also growing as to whether Andersson can ever be happy again in Cologne.
Almost two years after his 6.5 million move from Union Berlin, it doesn’t look like Andersson will still find his luck in Cologne!
► The striker has survived his knee problems, even saved Cologne from relegation in the 2021 relegation and with Steffen Baumgart (50) a coach who trusts him completely. Nevertheless, the Swede hangs through.
► A meager two goals in 20 appearances. Only nine times in the starting XI. The striker’s body language in training and games makes Andersson seem listless and frustrated rather than having fun. And after every performance like the one in Leipzig, he carries even more ballast with him.
► There were eight ball contacts at RB in the first half. Ironically, in the game in which he should have taken his chance and shown everyone that Cologne is more than just Modeste. Andersson missed Cologne’s best chance (67th).
Licensing player boss Thomas Kessler (35) still protects him: “He did a good job.”
Andersson before the summer in Cologne
But the fact is that Andersson’s Cologne chapter will have ended in the summer a year before the end of the contract. The striker already wanted to escape last summer. His move to Turkey back then failed in the last few meters. Since then, there shouldn’t have been an argument for an FC future!
